Done for Today!

It has been two weeks from today that I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Point Loma Nazarene University with a B.A. in Music! For now, I am done with academia! I'm very relieved and am excited about the uncertainty of the future. I feel like I can do any thing at this point in my life. It's a little scary because I feel somewhat directionless, but the excitement is overpowering the fears at this point.

I still have things to get done though--competitions, auditions, and a summer program--and all the work that entails with these. In the fall, there are possibilities of traveling abroad to Germany to study the language, travel, watch opera, and hopefully audition for any young artist programs there!

So many unexpected things are sure to come my way. But for now, and I am happy to be done today.

Through the finish line!

Yesterday I made it through the finish line with my senior recital "Faces of Eve," and the people liked it! It went very well from the singing, staging, lighting, and PowerPoint. I'm soooooo glad it's done though. Now I can move on to the million other things I need to work on.

I want to thank everyone who helped me with my recital, specifically:

  • Ines Irawati my AMAZING pianist and collaborator :)
  • Craig Johnson who made this day happen, and beautifully sang with me
  • My mom who found my amazing gowns, and put together a beautiful and tasty reception
  • My friends Christian and Austin who also sang with me on some of the funniest scenes ever! It was so much fun!
Thank you to everyone who could be there to support me.

"Oklahoma!"

Today I landed in Norman, Oklahoma to visit the University of Oklahoma for their graduate program in opera! Tomorrow I meet with lots of faculty members for the program and then get to hear the legendary mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne in a masterclass. It'll be a busy few days. Whew! Then, the next morning I come back from OK, is my dress rehearsal for my senior recital (PS: which is THIS Saturday on April 9th!).

"Song of the Soprano" Campaign

Fundraising Time!

I am excited to tell you that for this summer I will be attending the esteemed summer program called OperaWorks! I have been chosen, through national auditions of more than 300 applicants, to be one of only 30 singers to participate in OperaWorks’ 2010 Advanced Artist Program held in Los Angeles.

This summer I will join the ranks of OperaWorks alumni who are on stage at The Metropolitan Opera, Canadian Opera Company and Deutsche Oper Berlin to name a few.  A full company profile and faculty bios can be found online at www.operaworks.org.
“Without a doubt, Ann Baltz’s OperaWorks stands above the rest in its unique ability to transform singers into complete artists.  The OperaWorks method is far more creative.  It encourages the individual singer to find and explore his or her own limits and go beyond.”
Gregory Buchalter, Assistant Conductor – The Metropolitan Opera
No other program offers this kind of comprehensive professional development.  I need your help to attend OperaWorks this summer and you can be a part of my success by making a tax-deductible donation toward my OperaWorks scholarship fund.  I have made it easy for you – all you have to do is click on the link below.

(1) In the “Designate My Donation” box just enter the words “Scholarship Fund” and
(2) In the “Dedicate My Donation” section, click the option that says “As A Gift In Someone’s Name” and type in my name.

I have already raised $100 and need to raise another $2600 to meet my goal to pay for the program's tuition.  I would be so grateful for any contribution you can make toward my growth as an artist and performer.

It's Official!

I've spent this past week of spring break wracking my brains to memorize all of my pieces for my recital. It's been very stressful--not the most realizing of breaks, but productive. Well it's payed off, and I officially passed my pre-recital hearing this evening. So keep April 9th in your calendars! :)
